EXOTIC WOODS

Our exotic collection of woods from around the world shows our appreciation for this diverse and natural material.  Each exotic wood has varying characteristics and regional background.  We use only responsibly harvested lumber because we believe a healthy ecosystem is critical to our global environment.  These exotics are just a few of the many available so contact our helpful customer service personnel to inquire about any other lumber interests.

Ebony

This exotic and very dense wood has been used and admired for centuries by woodworking masters throughout the world.  True Ebony is almost black with slight greenish-grey hues appearing.  Ebony takes oil very well and is used by Aspen Rustic Billiards as an accent for marquetry or inlay material.  Aiming dots can also be cut from such an appreciated species.  Because of the many variations of this species and specific nature of a rare wood, please call our design team to inquire about the use of Ebony in your fine Aspen Rustic pool table.

Cocobolo

A very dense and beautiful member of the rosewood family.  We love to use this exotic material to complement woods such as Mahogany and Mesquite to make a very rich and well tailored pool table.  This species shows off its ribbon grain pattern and contrast as an inlay material or finishing detail.  Characteristic deep reds and brownish black markings will deepen with age.

Koa

A truly beautiful wood from Hawaii, Koa is most notoriously used in the old wooden surfboards of the 60’s.  A predominantly wavy (pardon the pun) grain pattern has light and dark browns with underlying golden luster. You might ask why a custom billiard table maker in Colorado uses Koa?  I guess you might say we have other appreciations (Eric H. is a great surfer) in addition to skiing and hiking and Koa is such a gorgeous wood.  Someday we will get the chance to build that one-of-a-kind surf inspired pool table for a collector who shares our hang-loose attitude.  Please check out our link to Arbor Snowboards (www.arborsports.com), this high class company carries a line of Koa snowboards worth checking out.

Purple Heart

Purple Heart is a very unique, hard and dense wood from Africa with a strong purple coloration.  Depending upon the treatment, this purple can change to a dark nut-brown color over time.  Because of the special properties, Aspen Rustic Billiards has found it to be a great inlay or detail material to accent felt colors or a specific design motif.

Zebrawood

Masculine and bold, this exotic African wood has strong contrast of color and is commonly used to accentuate long flowing lines or other uniform colors or textures on a custom pool table.  Here in America, we seldom see these exotics available to choose from.  The wood is light gold in color, with narrow streaks of dark brown to almost black.

Argentina Cherry

Our South American Cherry (also called Lenga), sourced from Argentina, is a blond, almost pink version of the American Cherry.  It’s softer wood has light cream colored variation and has muted, almost unrecognizable grain pattern.  We have a very limited supply and is at this time hard to find a source.  We can use this wood for almost any part of a table but the subtle amber patina that happens over time would really set top rails of a custom billiard table apart from any other.
