Our ‘unique materials’ section below includes most other materials that do not fit into the ‘woods’ section.  We really do get creative with the many natural elements found in the Colorado area and beyond.  There are so many variations and characteristics that we need your help in deciding where they belong.  Aspen Rustic Billiards gives you the customer a say in what special features your custom rustic pool table will include.

Tin Ceiling

The use of other materials such as tin ceiling material, old or new, is a great accent to add to the custom Aspen Rustic pool table.  We most often apply the tin ceiling design to the framed pool table and frame it, patina or rust it, then seal its beauty in.  There are hundreds of designs available to cover all time periods and styles.  Once in a while we will acquire some from a turn-of-the-century old saloon with the original bullet holes.  Tin crown moulding is an easy choice to dress up a table too.  Talk to an Aspen Rustic Billiards design professional to inquire about these and other options for your custom table.

Leather

In addition to the use of real leather pockets, we love to work with this very natural material in the design of a table.  Fine leather has always meant quality in a product and with so many types and variations to choose from it gives the client many custom options for their unique table.  We highlight the basic choices of raw leather (suede included), hair on leather, and tooled leather as individual categories to better illustrate the differences.  Raw leather is what you might see used in a purse or a belt.  It can be stained, painted to handsomely recreate the Native American Art you might find in artifacts of this region.  Let us know what ideas you come up with for this rich material.

Hair on Leather

We use many types of special leather.  With this variety, hair is left on the hide through the process of tanning and finish.  The colors that are available are as numerous as the cows in the field or the elk on the range.  This type of natural leather is becoming very popular among the well appointed homes of Aspen, Telluride, and the resorts of the west.  We can use Steer hide, Elk, Buffalo, Deer, and Antelope just to name a few.  Our online store at www.aspenrustic.com features pillows, upholstered chairs, and pool table covers that use many colors of hair on steer hide.

Tooled Leather

Some of the other fellow artists that we occasionally use to help create our custom billiard tables create beautiful tooled leather and engravings.  Tooling in leather has been an appreciated art form for many centuries that “showed off” a little bit of the extravagance found in a person’s valuables.  Like carved gunstocks or scrimshaw artwork, tooled leather can be ornamental or tell a special story.  If you have a special request or want to see what features you can add to an Aspen Rustic Billiards table, don’t hesitate to e-mail us at info@aspenrustic.com

Saddle Blanket Inlays

This one came to us years ago from a client in southern Colorado who wanted to see the colors of old Indian print saddle blankets integrated into a TV cabinet we were commissioned to build.  We tossed the idea around here at the shop and found that by using the blankets to cover the panels of the doors, the wood frame was complemented with the rich earthy tones from the blankets.  It was astonishing to see this perfect match of rustic wood and well-worn tapestry come together in a product that fit the décor perfectly.  To see the samples of this idea, click on the thumbnails.

Copper

We at Aspen Rustic Inc. use materials such as copper to accentuate the natural earth tones found in the woods of our custom rustic pool tables.  This complementary existence along with the vast color and texture range that copper can reach allows us to achieve that balance of beauty and design specific for each client.  If your rustic lodge or winter ski cabin is ready for a unique custom pool table using copper to accessorize those warm wood tones, call on our design professionals to help make that idea a reality.

Bark Siding

Aspen Rustic is a group of interesting individuals to say the least.  We are a mix of artists and science minded friends with a strong appreciation for the natural world and it’s rustic side of life.  Eric H. and Kirk came up with this knarly idea one day when looking out onto a pile of Pinion Pine logs and realizing that the bark was another great looking texture that could be a strong interpretation of woodsmen/rustic that we try to use to evaluate all that we create.  Since we are working with over 30 species of lumber, we see many different bark types that can be used to detail a custom Aspen Rustic Billiard table.  Here are a few to complement the Birch Bark, Aspen, and Willow that are featured separately.

Natural Woven Fabric

There are many patterns available from chair cane and basket weave to even woven leather.  Talk to a design professional at Aspen Rustic Billiards to design your custom pool table using almost any fabric or natural material and make it uniquely yours.

Stone

Natural stone of many varieties is available to decorate the eccentric custom pool table from Aspen Rustic.  We rely on a few local artists with talents in the materials other than wood, metal, leather, to help us with a project from time to time.  Any mountain town has a collection of craftsmen that excel in their field of artistry and Aspen is no exception.  We use many stone products in their natural form but laser etching and water jet cutting is available; tile work, not to mention inlay and sandblasting can be commissioned to fully customize your one-of-a-kind Aspen Rustic Billiard table.  Let us know more about your interest in stone by talking to our design professional.

Bead board

Another architectural inspiration the craftsmen at Aspen Rustic Billiards have adapted for use in building and detailing our rustic pool tables is using bead board.  We make our own bead board using the cuttings from reclaimed timbers or shorter pieces of salvaged barn siding to get that rich dark patina that matches the unique style of our tables so well.  Our Durango table uses applied bead board to add the important supporting vertical lines to the table.  Since we hand make our own profiles and mouldings, we are able to work with the clients specific wood or color choices to perfectly accentuate the custom billiard table and the room it is placed in.

Metal

Another material with too many possibilities to list is metal.  Consisting of Steel, Bronze, Wrought Iron, Stainless, Brass, Rusted Metal, Cast Iron, and many more, the metals section seems to add so much opportunity for full customization of an Aspen Rustic Billiards table.  We already mentioned copper in a previous section but brass, stainless, and bronze seem to add their diverse colors that complement so well the stronger colors of nature.  For instance, bright bronze-yellow patina cut out in the shape of an Aspen Leaf looks so beautiful inlayed into a top rail of a pool table against the dark rustic wood and an earth toned felt color.  Many of our aiming dots already are metal and would look great next to a hammered steel or wrought iron corner cap.  We will show more options soon to enliven the ideas and create new possibilities.

Antler

Our online shopping gallery features many products made using antlers such as chandeliers, end tables, and wall sconces but we like to use antlers in our custom pool tables to further support that natural rustic beauty.  Our antler supply is replenished in the early Spring when the alpine snows melt and reveal the annual sheds.  Almost any local hiker can find a few when backpacking in the high-country.  We use deer and elk mostly to create unique billiard lighting, pool table adornments, bridge stick ends, and aiming dots when they are sliced.  An artist friend is available to intricately scrimshaw any design into the slices for those truly custom aiming dots.  We are working on laser etching a ranch logo into these aiming dots for a local guest ranch to show off in their lodge.
